Mini quilt party

Did you know amylouwho is having a party!  A mini quilt party!
So I thought I would join in and share a recent swap finish.  Why is it I'm always sending my favorite finishes to others?  Ah such is the way of a quilter!
Have you seen this loveliness?
And this loveliness?

This is fabric the first DS  Quilts (Denise Schmidt) line, Picnic & Fairgrounds, found at Joann's.  Some of us are alittle obsessed with Denise Schmidt fabrics at Joann's.  So obsessed we have this flickr group to discuss and share it.  And there are two other lines since this one was released last spring.

We DS Quilts devotees are so obsessed we decided to do a DS Quilts Doll Quilt swap using just Picnic & Fairgrounds!  I was all gun ho to use my Kona Ash for the background and made these little squares and tried them.  I liked it alot!
However when I posted to the group I got lukewarm response so I tried it against a white.
Everyone like this version, but I wasn't thrilled so I put it away for a while.  I felt like it didn't represent me. I designed new quilts in my graph pad. Finally as the deadline approached I was hit with inspiration.  My paper pieced stars!  I love making them!  I have been doing them since I first used them as a border for a round robin quilt in 1994.  Set the original part on point and put a star in each corner!
I love how it turned out! (though I still want to do it in ash).  The yellow was just right for setting off the  center.  I decided not to put an outer border on it.
When quilting I don't draw out lines or think to far ahead.  I guess I just(forgive the cliche) let it speak to me.  If you look closely in the center I did a series of squares with narrow and wide widths between.  In the center I turned the squares on point.  I had fun quilting around the stars too.
I used a darker blue and red small scale print to bind it.  I love using these clips to hold the binding in place!
I think it turned out pretty great and my partner really liked it!

Don't forget to go back and check out all the mini quilts at the party!

Keep dreaming...Colleen

This is the DS Quilts doll quilt my partner Leona sent me!  It's awesome!

Oh, I LOVE it; and I think I would in Ash too. I am far from traditional in my love of quilts. I have really found a love for mini quilts lately. I am going to start my own after the holidays. So much fun!

Wow! both quilts are fabulous.
I was told by machine quilters that if you do your own quilting that you should think about the quilting as you make the quilt. That the quilt will speak to you and even though the quilt waited until you began, it is great. I don't do much machine quilting but sometimes I don't know what I am going to do until I get started. So what ever works.

I love your little quilt! Can you tell me where you found the paper pieced star pattern. I'd love to have it.
