May Goals Results

Short but sweet, I met some of my May goals.

1. Quilted and bound TWO of my basted baby quilts!
Kalli-cat approved!

2.  I did make a third Swoon block

and a fourth!

3 I did not catch up on some of my Grandmother's choice blocks(Im still behind!)

BTW anyone else so frustrated with the changes to flickr?  I cant quickly scan my sets, or grab a picture from the photostream with out waiting for extremely slow photo load or clicking through multiple levels to grab the URL!!! And apparently Pro doesn't mean what it used to.  Who are these idiots!?

Bloggers Quilt festival-2013 spring edition part 2

So this year we can enter 2 quilts!!

So I've decided to enter my Madrona Road challenge quilt.  The MQG issued a challenge along with fabric from the line. Our guild gave us a selection of fat eighths.  I challenged myself to only use those fabrics plus solids from my stash.

"Starburst"

36 x 36

Entered in the wall quilts (for lack of a better category)

I actually drew out the design first, calculating the fabric needed based on what I could get out of the fat eighths.  I added a yellow and Westminster Dogwood gray.
I machine quilted it using a wonderful yellow Aurifil 40wt.  I love the effect on the center!

I used the scraps for the back and the binding.

I dont have the best pictures.  It was rainy and I was on a deadline.  We were turning them into our guild for donation to Senior Services.  We make lap quilts @ 36" square for wheel chair bound seniors.

So come out and vote for my quilt and check out all the others in the Blogger's Quilt Festival!

I refashioned "Starburst" and entered it in the Accuquilt barnquilt contest.
It was one of FOUR entries I had in the top 100!

Bloggers Quilt Festival-2013 spring edition!

Its that time again!

I have decided to share a doll quilt I made for the DQS 13!
This was a VERY hard quilt to send away.
Only the idea that I could make it again for myself allowed me to do so.

"Deadly Dresden"

22"x22"

Shmidt fabrics used in the Dresden, binding, and backing.
Essex linen used for background.

Entered in the doll/mini quilt  category

I used machine quilting,

and hand quilting.

For the hand quilting I used my favorite pearl pearl Cottons!

matching the color to each Dresden section .

I have another piece of that center tattoo fabric except it says Quilt or Die.

The two tattoo pieces I received in a box of scraps.  They inspired me to create this quilt.  I struggled over whether to try to make the center a traditional round.  I really did not have enough fabric.  I like the squared center.

When I make another one for me, I might try to use 20 different Denyse Schmidt fabrics.  Have I mentioned I'm a DS Quilts addict?

I went to our local Japanese restaurant and got shrimp and steak hibachi takeout for mom, dad, and me for Mother's Day.  My sister and her husband had come up Saturday to celebrate my birthday and Mother's Day.  Dad grilled steak and we had corn and shrimp and salad.

But enough food talk, time for some winners.

Traveling stash, who wants it?

So this week Katie passed the Traveling Stash box on to me.  This box started in August 2012 in El Paso, TX.

Here is what I took out. Love the Curious George.  May have to make a pillow for my library with that.  And the flannel owls-and I dont care for owls mind you-would be good on the back of a pillow or baby quilt.  The one book I thought would be nice in our guild library.  It has some fun projects.  I liked the quilts in the other for my own inspiration.

Here is what is left

Here is what I added (not the book, not sure how that got in the picture?)  4 different print fabrics, a couple of needle point kits, and a large charm pack.

If you would like to have the traveling stash box visit you leave your name below.  Make sure I have a way of contacting you and that you are not a no-reply blogger.  This is only open to US residents.

I will draw the winner on May 10th at 5pm.
