Quilt from the past

I took this quilt over to mom and dad's Saturday to photograph.  It is one I made in July of 1995 for my grandfather.  He was dying of cancer and would be gone in November.  I re-purposed some old quilt blocks in a pinwheel style.

The heart was appliqued to cover some fraying edges.  I can see that these blocks weren't perfectly hand stitched and had lumps. Some of the fabrics used look very modern.

I hand quilted outlining the inside of blades.

I used to make embroidered or pigma pen labels, sometimes with a little fabric paint.
And a badly done machine binding.  I was in a rush to get this done.  I gave it to grandfather when I went up to visit him that August.

I like photographing on dad's new patio.  It provides a nice backdrop and I can even stand on the deck and take a picture looking down.  I gave the quilt to my dad to use when he naps in the living room.  I made a square pillow case with handles to carry it.  Grandmother used to keep it in the car to use when they would go to the park to hear music.

I have a ton of that orange fabric still left.  I have used it for many different projects.  Im not sure why I bought so much at the time.  I know it was a nice quilt shop cotton.

a little Tula Pink in my life..

Ok so everyone is probably sick of hearing me talk about TP.  Just trying to get the word out about Wednesday.  See this post for details.

But I just have to share my fashion statement for the grand event... I
t's Amy Butler's pattern Birdie Sling in Nightshade!

And look it is reversible!

And poor me I have all of these leftovers.  The top folded piece is all of the selvedges.

I used one selvedge on the side of the small pocket.

And here is the large double packet.

I already made this one

for my secret pal Caroline.

Here is part of the Doll Quilt I am working on.  I will finish it this week .

Four more student days and one teacher work day and school is out for summer!  Yeah!

ICAD starts today

For the summer I wanted to start some healthy creative habits.  Habits that I can sustain or at least inspire me through the summer and into the fall.
I saw ICAD-Index Card a Day on Daisy Yellow's blog.

I have PLENTY of index cards and pens and pencils.  I'm a bit of a hoarder of office supplies. I pulled out a pencil case with an outside pocket the index cards fit in perfectly.  Filled the pouch with markers, pens and pencils.

I think I'm going to make this part of my morning routine.  When I wake up grab the pouch and write or draw or design before I even get out of bed.   It is when my mind is at its most open.  You are supposed to write/draw/stamp/whatever on one card a day. We'll see how it goes.

So here is my first one.

A list of what I want to accomplish this month.
